Headed to the Farm! Update 6.

OH MY GOODNESS! So, hello! How have you been? I’m sorry that it’s been a bit since posting an update on our family downsizing our home in suburbia and upsizing our land acreage! Things have definitely been busy on our end. I’ll answer the biting question first, no, we haven’t sold our home yet. We’re still getting interest (new showings and second showings) but no offers. As I’ve written in the past, we’re excited to start our new future, but we’re not desperate, so we’re holding out on dropping the price of our home for a few more weeks.

So let’s catch you up on some of the chaos that has ensued over the past 11 days:

  • We celebrated my mom’s 73rd birthday on July 12, we had a fun family dinner at a local restaurant. It was the same night as one of our showings so God bless my husband as he took 2 cats and our dog out for a bit while the potential buyers were checking out our home!
  • We’ve since had 4 showings and a broker’s open (where our agent invites other agents to see our home)…it’s always a production getting the pets out the door, but I’m happy to report that we haven’t lost any of them yet!
  • We received some feedback from our broker’s open. Someone said that it was odd that our doors upstairs were 2 different colors. 2 of the bedroom doors are white and 2 are wood, the bathroom and 2 linen closet doors were wood as well, so, of course, during this past week, hubby took down, painted and hung back up 5 interior doors.  I will say that it looks much more uniform.
  • The seller of the land we put an offer on countered and we accepted. (now to work out the details of the contract…so many moving parts!)

    Happy Graduation, Ian!

We had our son’s high school graduation party! It was a traditional BBQ with all the fixings and it was so great to see his friends enjoying our pool for what could have potentially been the last time.

  • We’ve been looking for a car for our son so when he starts college at the end of next month he’ll be able to get himself back and forth (yes, he’s commuting) and we finally found one and bought it!
  • Our cat was diagnosed with herpes, yes, herpes. Apparently it can be brought on by stress. I’m just going to leave that there, this deserves a whole post of it’s own…and may get one some day.
  • Our daughter, who is singing professional a capella out on Cape Cod, broke her thumb! It’s so awful to be so far away (it’s 4 hours) when your child is hurt. I don’t care if they’re 3 or 23. From xrays to a drilled nail to relieve the pressure to a splint that is going to stay on for up to 6 weeks. She was referred to a hand specialist, but we’re happy to report that she does not need any further care from one!
  • and finally, (on this list, but certainly not all that has happened) we took a 2 day trip to the Cape to see our daughter. It was lovely and way too short. She is certainly lucky to have such a great group of young women as her summer soulmates. She looked happy and healthy. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

I write this as my son and husband are outside mowing the lawn and I’m so happy that we’ve been doing such a great job at keeping the inside of our home so tidy that getting ready for what’s on deck this weekend is shaping up to be fairly easy!  We’ve got a showing tomorrow at noon, dinner with some family tomorrow night and another open house on Sunday.

The words that I’m working so hard to live by these days are, “live in the moment”…we have nothing but right now. As much as we’re worried about our future, remembering (and perhaps regretting) our past, means little. It’s ok to plan (and quite fun), and it’s ok reminisce, but we need to remember that this moment, the one we have right now, this is what counts and what needs to be enjoyed.

Now off to enjoy the moment. To be continued…

Be healthy, be well,
Meredith
